Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Communal clashes have been a recurring issue in Jos North LGA, Plateau State, often driven by ethnic, religious, and political tensions. Local media plays a pivotal role in reporting these conflicts, shaping public perception, and fostering peace. Public trust in local media is critical to ensuring credible and unbiased reporting that promotes understanding and conflict resolution. However, factors such as sensationalism, perceived bias, and limited access to accurate information can erode trust, undermining the media’s ability to contribute effectively to peacebuilding (Audu & Danjuma, 2023). This study explores the level of public trust in local media reporting on communal clashes in Jos North LGA.

The study examines the factors influencing public trust in local media and offers insights into improving media credibility in Jos North LGA.
